What the Sunset Portal does
Removing NCII normally means separate forms, platforms, and follow-ups. The Sunset Portal consolidates the process into a single case, managed by NCVIC.
How it works
Four steps, from report to resolution.
Start with what you have
- No images required. A description, usernames, or links are enough — we run text-based searches.
- Facial recognition is optional. Very helpful, never required for your case to proceed.
- Opt in feature by feature. Search, monitoring, and evidence preservation are separate, reversible choices.
- Voice record. Use our voice-to-text transcription feature to tell us what happened in your own words.

Track URLs across the entire internet
- Cross-platform tracking — track URLs across the entire internet in one place.
- Evidence preservation — authorize us to capture and preserve network activity, screenshots, and MHTML files.
Notices, verification, and escalation
Every notice triggers a 48-hour compliance check. If content remains up, the case can be escalated to the FTC — NCVIC prepares and submits the filing.
- Progress tracking — how many notices went out, to whom, and where each one stands.
- Verified removal — our systems check whether an image has actually come down so you don't have to.
- FTC escalation — filed by NCVIC, with reference ticket numbers issued and managed from your dashboard. Victims don't submit any reports themselves.
De-indexing across search engines
We submit de-indexing requests across all major search engines and are actively pursuing browser and DNS level interventions for eligible images that do not come down.
Privacy and control
- Delete your data at any point — images, hashes, and case history.
- Revoke authorization anytime. Pausing or ending NCVIC's work on your behalf takes one toggle action from your Settings page.
- Two case keywords protect your updates. Save them securely from intake as you'll need them to access status updates on your case.

Common questions
Do I have to upload images to start?
No. A description, usernames, or links are enough for us to begin text-based searches. Image matching and facial recognition are optional tools you can enable later — or never.
Who is reviewing my images?
Access to sensitive images is strictly limited to federally background-checked caseworkers and staff who have completed security and privacy training. Before being assigned a case or viewing any images, each caseworker must attest that they do not personally know the individual depicted.
Can you help me if I was depicted as a minor?
The Sunset Portal by NCVIC serves victims of all ages. Our upload flow for minors explains what constitutes CSAM before anything is sent and offers on-device sanitization. NCVIC is a registered ESP with the NCMEC CyberTipline and follows federal reporting and preservation requirements.
What if a platform ignores the notice?
If the content remains online 48 hours after a valid notice, you have the option of requesting that we escalate the matter to the FTC. We may also escalate across the broader internet stack while our legal strategy team researches additional pathways for removal and enforcement.
My images aren't fully nude. Do they still count?
Possibly, yes. Federal and state NCII definitions cover more than fully explicit imagery — and NCVIC additionally sends notices on clothed stills derived from trafficking videos as a matter of policy.
Can I change my mind after starting?
Yes, you can revoke authorization or delete your data entirely at any point.
How much will this cost me?
Nothing. The Sunset Portal is free for victims and their authorized representatives and cannot accept payment for services rendered. If you would like to donate to support the work we do, please do so here.
